Charles was a young man in his mid twenties. He hailed from a way below middle class family and was the last-born of his mother. This would be the first time ever that he would travel outside of Nigeria. He was heading to England at the prestigious Oxford university to do her masters program in Biochemistry. He was excited of course and was actually counting the days and hours to the time of his flight. Finally the day of his departure arrived. He bid his parents and brothers farewell as he boarded the aeroplane. His father pastored a church of about two hundred members. He was a known God-fearing man. The flight took six hours and in them all,Charles"s father"s words kept playing in his mind." My son,keep the commandments of God and you will prosper." He had said.
Charles commenced his studies at Oxford university after a week of his arrival in England. He was a naturally very intelligent guy. He did extremely well in most of his exams. There was this particular girl who caught Charles"s eye. She had eyes as blue as the sea and healthy beautiful long brown curly hair. For Charles,she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.He couldn"t stop staring at her. Before long,Charles started dating her.He started disobeying God"s commandments by having intercourse with a woman he wasn"t married to. His girlfriend who was a chain smoker introduced him into the habit and later into alcohol.
Charles finally lost all his zeal for God and before he knew it,he went from the intelligent guy he had been to become a dullard. He flopped miserably in all his remaining exams. After his masters program, Charles decided to stay in England in search of a job. He never got any job of his choice and later turned to become a post-man which was the only available job. Things went from worse to worst. Charles was accused later of mis-handling fragile post and he lost his only job. His family back at home had depended on him for support.This hurt him so much.His parents had literally sold all they could to see him study so far. How would he ever be able to explain to them that he miserably flopped in his masters program.Everything was working against him.
This particular day,Charles decided to attend a nearby pentecostal church. "Deuteronomy 28:8 says that the LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. Brethren,you can never disobey God in any land and expect to be blessed. Remember that God declares that the earth is His footstool! Turn away from sin and embrace holiness and the blessings of God will run and overtake you! Somebody shout Aaaaameeen!" Said the Pastor. This words brought Charles back to his senses. He stopped asking God that question that we all at one point or another ask out of ignorance. "God,why me?" He thought of the times He has disrespected God. He had fornicated,taken drugs,lied a million and one times and list endless. The curses God had declared in Deuteronomy on those who kept not His statutes were obviously running and overtaking him. Nobody forced Charles to answer the alter call. He literally ran when an alter call was made with tears streaming from his eyes as he genuinely repented. God can never be mocked. Honor His word and it will be well with you and your descendants!
